Our favourite used electric cars

Thinking of buying a used electric car? There’s now more choice than ever, so here’s a couple of our favourite models.

The ID.3 is VW’s first-ever all-electric car. It’s unmistakably Volkswagen, thanks to the familiar profile and iconic badge, but with futuristic in-car tech, such as the optional AR Head-up Display, and electrifying performance. Acceleration to 62mph takes as little as 7.4 seconds on the Pro range model, which delivers 269 miles on a single charge.

The Porsche Taycan brims with all the style and soul you’d expect from Porsche, with impressive all-electric performance. If you’re a guest at the boutique hotels and fine dining restaurants that are part of the Porsche Destination Charging programme, then charging is completely free!  When it comes to speed, the Taycan will take you from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds.

Used electric cars: FAQs

With the right care and maintenance, you can expect upwards of 10 years or 200,000 miles of use from an electric car. A second-hand electric car should last at least as long as a conventional car.

As more electric and hybrid vehicles have become available, and with the government’s 2035 impending ban on new petrol and diesel cars, electric cars no longer carry the hefty insurance price tag they once did.

About 60,000 miles would be classed as a high mileage for an electric car, but there should still be plenty of life left in it.

High mileage on an electric car is an indicator that the battery was frequently charged so be sure to check up on the health of the battery as this is just as important.

Most electric vehicles need servicing less frequently than either petrol or diesel cars.

Servicing an electric car is made simpler by the fact that almost all manufacturers offer a service plan for electric vehicles.
