JCT600 x Give A Duck

We are proud to be supporting the Give A Duck Foundation by donating a year’s supply of Chemo Ducks to both the Leeds and Sheffield Children’s Hospitals. The Give A Duck Foundation is a UK-wide children’s cancer charity which supports children who have been diagnosed with cancer by providing them each with their very own Chemo Duck.

With dealerships in Leeds and Sheffield, we are supporting these local communities with a donation of 200 Chemo Ducks for children in Leeds and Sheffield Children’s Hospitals.

Fitted with medical lines and ports to mirror those of the child, Chemo Ducks are used by play leaders during play therapy to prepare children for their treatment, whether it’s an appointment with their consultant, administering chemotherapy or taking blood samples; all with the aim of making things a little easier during such a difficult time.

Chemo Ducks will also be on display at all 19 of our dealerships in Leeds and Sheffield to raise awareness and encourage customers to join us in supporting this initiative. Find out more about the Give A Duck initiative and the incredible work they do on a daily basis.

JCT600 will be raising money for Ben throughout 2023 and beyond.

Ben is a charity dedicated to supporting the people of the automotive industry, and their dependants.

The charity works to support those facing a crisis or helps them to prevent a crisis, and to manage their health and wellbeing. All their support is unique and tailored, so they are able to provide the best possible support options for each individual. Ben also operates care and support for those later in life, which is not dependent on an automotive industry connection.

Throughout our time as Ben’s charity partner, JCT600 colleagues company-wide will be supporting and fundraising for Ben with a range of organised events and personal challenges.

Our commitment to Ben

Earlier this autumn, eight colleagues from our leadership team have once again donned their hiking boots in the name of charity, completing the 80-mile Dales Way to raise funds for automotive charity partner BEN.

The team took on the challenge of walking from Ilkley, West Yorkshire, to Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria – a five-and-a-half day hike, requiring a total of 200,000 steps and burning an average of 17,000 calories. The team comprised of: John Tordoff, executive chairman; Nigel Shaw, financial director; Richard Hargraves, managing director; Tracey Newton, people director; Graham Thacker, operations director; Andy Bateman, customer experience director; James Parker, chief information officer; and Ben Creswick, managing director of the group’s vehicles leasing division, JCT600 VLS.

The walk was part of the BEN’s Benathlon Challenge which encouraged automotive businesses to exercise for a whole month, and was also an opportunity to fundraise for the charity which supports anyone in need who has worked in the industry. The JCT600 team has succeeded in raising £8,500 for BEN so far and donations can be made here.

Richard Hargraves said: “BEN plays a vital role in the automotive industry, helping individuals from our sector when they need it most, and it’s vital that businesses like ours do all we can to support their work."

Our achievements

One of our recent challenges took place on the 18th November when our very own Andy Bateman and James Tordoff set off full steam ahead on their adventure to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. They conquered the highest free-standing mountain in the world, all to raise awareness and money for our industry charity.

To help them on their way, on Monday 10th October, for World Mental Health Day we kicked off our physical team challenge ‘Get us to Kili’. We aimed to complete the distance in kilometres from Head Office, Apperley Bridge, to the base of camp in Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania (totalling a whopping 10,345km) in one month.

So by putting the right foot forward we have successfully raised an astonishing £44,300 for our industry charity BEN, which is invaluable to our company, providing such great support by ensuring that no one in the Automotive Industry feels alone.
