World EV Day 2024

Find out how we’re supporting World EV Day 2024 – from the latest model releases to manufacturer incentives.

World EV Day 2024

World EV Day is celebrated annually on 9th September. The day highlights the importance of electric vehicles in creating a more sustainable future and how EVs contribute to reducing pollution and combating climate change by producing zero emissions. The switch to electric vehicles is a crucial step in decreasing our carbon footprint by lowering air pollution and creating a cleaner and healthier planet.

What is the meaning of World EV Day?

If you’re wondering what World EV Day is all about, it’s a celebration dedicated to everything related to electric vehicles! Now in its 5th year, World EV Day also known as World Electric Vehicle Day highlights the impressive growth and significance of the EV industry. Over the years, we’ve witnessed incredible advancements in EV technology, including battery life, performance, and the expansion of charging infrastructure.

Since it began, we now have more charging stations than ever before, and many of them feature ultra-rapid chargers that make owning an EV more convenient. This day serves as a reminder of how far we’ve come in promoting a clean and sustainable planet, and it also provides a glimpse into the exciting advancements that we’ll see in the future.

What are the key developments in e-mobility in 2024?

In 2024 alone, the UK has made significant changes in e-mobility, highlighting key policy changes and electric vehicle launches.

Key policy updates in 2024

  • In January 2024, the UK government introduced a ZEV mandate, requiring car manufacturers to ensure that a growing percentage of their new car sales are zero-emission vehicles. This is all part of the broader plan to ban new petrol and diesel cars by 2035, helping the UK meet its climate goals.
  • The UK's ongoing expansion of its electric vehicle charging network, with a focus on installing more high-speed chargers, is crucial for supporting the growing number of electric vehicles on the road. This means that EV drivers will experience greater convenience, with reduced waiting times and more accessible charging points, especially during long journeys, making EVs a practical option for more people.
  • The UK government is also pushing to make public transport and commercial vehicle fleets electric to assist in reducing emissions and improving air quality in cities. By switching to electric, businesses can lower their fuel and maintenance costs over time.

How is JCT600 supporting World EV Day?

At JCT600, we’re joining the rest of the world in celebrating World EV Day. Our goal is to make your transition to electric vehicles as easy and stress-free as possible.

We’ve invested in EV training to ensure colleagues at all JCT600 dealerships are ready to provide you with everything you need to know about EVs, as well as specialist training to ensure our vehicle technicians can safely service an EV. In addition to this, we’ve invested millions of pounds in ensuring our building infrastructure and future property developments meet sustainability requirements.

If you’re thinking about making the switch, most of our car manufacturers offer amazing incentives that change throughout the year, so it’s important to always do your research beforehand to ensure you’re getting the best offer. All our EV offers are available to view on our electric hub and are regularly updated to ensure you are kept up-to-date.

To help you feel confident before committing, we often offer extended test drives on most electric vehicles, giving you a true sense of what it’s like to drive an EV. While switching from a conventional engine might feel different, embracing EVs is a step toward a brighter, more sustainable future.

What does the future of EV look like?

We’re committed to a greener future, and we can confidently say the outlook for electric vehicles is bright. As of the end of July 2024, there were over 1,190,000 fully electric cars on UK roads. With the upcoming ban on petrol and diesel sales starting in 2035, this number is only set to rise. From that point on, only new vehicles in the electric category will be available.

To gain more insight and share how JCT600 is preparing for the change, we asked our Group EV and Sustainability Manager, Mike Lumley, what he thinks the future of EVs looks like. He said:

“The motor industry has shifted its focus over the past decade, investing heavily in the world of EVs, and this trend is showing no signs of slowing down. As a group, JCT600 has already invested over £1 million pounds in 2024 to build the necessary infrastructure and renewable resources to prepare for the future and meet the requirements from our brand partners. I firmly believe that EVs are here to stay and will be great for future generations and the planet. As with everything, it's crucial to be ready and have everything in place to benefit everyone.”

At JCT600, we are proud to be helping drive the change in the automotive industry. As we plan for the future, EVs are a central focus of our projects. By making EVs a priority, we aim to contribute to a greener future and remain at the forefront of the evolving automotive landscape.
