Want to hang on to that new car feeling? To keep your Mercedes-Benz running smoothly, we’ve outlined the key things you need to be doing on a regular basis and between your services.
Exterior cleaning
Washing your car isn’t just to make your car glimmer in the sunshine, it’s also to protect the paintwork.
When you wash your car, either at a valet or at home, it removes any build-up of dust, tree sap and debris such as bird droppings from the car which could contaminate the paintwork. Furthermore, keeping the car clean on the exterior can also help reduce the risk of rust forming, especially around the hubcaps.
Regular oil changes
As part of your vehicle service, your oil levels will be checked and changed where needed, but if you’re a regular commuter or are planning a long journey, then it’s even more important that you keep an eye on your oil levels.
When you purchase your Mercedes-Benz, details of your scheduled synthetic motor oil replacement service will be provided but, as everyone drives differently, it’s important that you check and top up as you go.
When it comes to choosing the right oil for your Mercedes-Benz, make sure to reference your owner’s manual for specific details, or this handy tool from Mobil is useful too.
How often? Your oil will be checked annually at every service but it’s also important that you check your oil levels before heading on a long journey too.
Tyre pressure
Like all cars, ensuring your tyres are set to the correct pressure can help avoid losing grip on roads, especially in bad weather. Having incorrect tyre pressure can also create other problems such as increasing your braking distances, damaging your tyres, shortening their life and increasing your fuel consumption.
Your correct tyre pressure can often be found on the sill of either the driver or passenger’s door. If you have a tyre pressure monitoring system, then once you’ve set the right tyre pressure, you’ll then need to reconfigure and store your new tyre pressure in the digital settings in your car.
How often? We would recommend checking your tyres once a month – stopping in at a service station is quick and easy to do.
Interior cleaning
Crumbs and dried mud are inevitable when travelling in the car with kids or pets (or both!) so a regular interior clean will help keep your car fresher for longer.
Regularly dusting the dashboard and vacuuming the footwells will keep smells at bay to give you that new car smell time and time again.
For a more in-depth clean, you should keep your leather seats smooth by using a leather conditioner, applying it with a soft brush to avoid scratches. By doing so, it helps to keep the leather supple and prevents any cracking.
Of course, if you wanted to keep your car free from mud and spills – you could always consider a no food and drinks policy!
How often? Your preference!
